Years ago I remembered tasting my friend’s Tuna salad and it was so good. I asked her what she put in it that makes it so different. She told me she put chopped apples. Ever since I always put chopped apples in my tuna salad.
Ingredients for Tuna Salad:
- 2 cans of Wild Planet Wild Albacore Tuna
- 1/2 cup of Mayonnaise
- 1 Apple (chopped)
- 1/4 cup of Pickles or relish (chopped)
- 1/4 cup of cilantro/green onion (chopped)
- Salt and pepper to taste
I put green onion because I don’t have cilantro on hand, but if I have to pick I prefer the cilantro for this recipe. You can also put both.
My favorite pickles is the Bubbies Bread and Butter Chips. This is by far the best tasting pickles I’ve tried.
Directions for Tuna Salad:
- Chop the apple, Chop the pickles, put it in a bowl. (If you are using food processor, don’t bother rinsing it between the apple and the pickle, they are all going to be mixed together anyway. Don’t waste your time)
- Put the rest of the ingredients in the bowl together with the chopped apple and pickles.
- Mix and you’re done.
You can make a sandwich with it, but I like to eat mine wrapped in lettuce.
Another alternative, you can chop your lettuce and wrap the tuna salad together with rice paper (like the ones in the Vietnamese restaurant).
Tips:
When buying canned food, make sure to choose one with BPA free can. I like the Wild Planet brand because they have BPA free packaging and also my local Costco carries them.
