Caprese Salad – the Perfect Summertime Snack

Summer is the perfect time to make Caprese salad, when basil is abundant. I like to eat Caprese salad any time, whether it’s hot or cold outside.  I love the combination of savory and fresh taste of the salad. What makes me love it even more is that it has protein, vegetable and fat which makes Caprese salad the perfect summertime snack.

Whenever I go to an Italian restaurant I’m always tempted to order it. But, when I think about how easy it is to make it myself, I end up ordering something else.

Basil Olive Oil Tomatoes Mozzarella

Ingredients for Caprese salad:

  • 3 tomatoes
  • 7 oz. of fresh mozzarella cheese (more or less)
  • Fresh basil leaves
  • Olive oil
  • Salt and pepper

Directions:

  • Slice tomatoes and mozzarella cheese and lay them alternately with the basil leaves tucked in between. (Or you can arrange them anyway you like, if you’re using the small mozzarella balls and cherry tomatoes you can even stick them on a skewer).
