Homemade Almond Milk, The Lazy Way

I’ve tried making almond milk a handful of times. I like the taste of homemade almond milk because I made it richer and creamier compared to the store bought ones. I simply have a higher almond to water ratio. Also, my homemade almond milk does not have all the questionable additives that the store bought has.

As much as I like the taste of homemade almond milk, I don’t really like the process of making it. I especially don’t like the straining and squeezing part. It gets messy and it requires hard labor.  When I’m making almond butter the hard labor is done by the food processor, so I don’t mind making it over and over again.  So, I went ahead and experimented with homemade almond milk, the lazy way.

Instead of making the almond milk using raw almond, I use my homemade almond butter or you can also use store bought almond butter.  Just make sure you choose the ones that only have almonds listed in the ingredients and nothing else.

  • After everything is mixed, check the taste and the consistency. If it is as you wanted it to be then you can start transferring it to a glass container for refrigeration.

  • The milk will be foamy on top. If you don’t like the foam you can remove it by straining the milk. I personally don’t mind the foam but I did this step for the sake of giving a clear direction.

  • Chill your milk in the refrigerator until you are ready to drink it.

Notes:

  • You can adjust the creaminess of your milk by adding almond butter or adding water.
  • There will be separation after you refrigerate your almond milk, just make sure to shake it before you drink it.

Update:

I’ve tried making the almond milk with both homemade almond butter and store bought almond butter.  I like the taste of the milk from store bought almond butter better, because the almond was roasted. The milk has fuller taste and nice smell to it.

    1. No I don’t. I guess it’s all depend on how much almond butter and honey you use. If you are using store bought almond butter you can refer to the package and take note how much you use for the milk. If your almond butter is homemade, you probably want to try estimating from the almond packaging. I hope that helps 🙂

  1. Thanks. My little one is intolerant to dairy, doesn’t like store bought almond milk (& I don’t like the amount of sugar either), and rice milk has arsenic concerns. Currently getting phleghmy with hemp milk. I am running out of options for a milk for her!
