I love roasted brussel sprouts, but if I roast them I ended up having to finish everything, because my kids usually gag when they see brussel sprouts in their original form. I might have traumatized them with bad tasting brussel sprouts (live and learn).
I tried to make brussel sprouts that don’t look like brussel sprouts to avoid all the gagging. Oh, the things that we do to make our kids eat healthy food!
Foods are not created equal. Some foods are easier to cook than others (meaning: you can use simple seasoning and they will taste good, like salmon). Other foods required to be cooked with other yummier food for them to taste good. Brussel sprout is definitely one of them. Therefore, I’m taking my bacon and butter out for this.
Ingredients:
- 1 pound of shredded Brussel Sprout (I always use my food processor because it’s faster and I can’t stand tedious work)
- 4-5 slices of Bacon (chopped in small pieces)
- 1 Tbsp of Brown Butter (if you don’t have it, regular butter will also works)
- 1 Tbsp of Chopped Garlic
- 1 Tbsp of ground Dried Shrimps (or Dried Shrimps)
- Salt and Pepper to taste
Directions:
- Brown the chopped bacon on the wok. (I like using Carbon Steel Wok and super high heat for stir frying, this combo makes great stir fries).
- When the bacon is crispy and the fat is rendered, move the bacon out of the wok, set it aside. (careful not to burn the bacon)
- Pour out excess fat, just leave some on the wok (enough for stir frying) and add the butter.
- Brown garlic and ground dried shrimp in the wok , when they turned golden brown put the shredded brussel sprouts.
- Stir fry until brussel sprouts caramelized.
- When you’re done, sprinkle the bacon on top.
Tips:
- With a carbon steel wok, you need to season it well so that it will not be sticky and your food will glide effortlessly (unfortunately, I did a sloppy seasoning job so it looks splotchy).
